Join us this autumn as we read G. K. Chesterton’s classic, „Orthodoxy“, in a series of 7 meetings.
Let’s not dwell upon what was lost in translation and tackle original texts! The intent is to debate and discuss the content while enjoying linguistic nuances, unveiling idiomatic phrases and peeling off layers of meanings hidden in lexical and grammatical usage of the original. We’ll share diverse interpretations of the text, as relevant to our background and experience.
The goal is to achieve a level of comfort in reading, listening and speaking, and interact with the text as well as the other readers.
The course is intended for advanced speakers of English (advanced intermediates will be helped along and are encouraged to attend, too).

Cyklus sedmi podzimních setkání nad knihou Orthodoxy (Ortodoxie), klasickým dílem G. K. Chestertona.
Autor v něm vybízí čtenáře, aby spolu s ním prověřili krédo, že „… we need (a) life of practical romance; the combination of something that is strange with something that is secure. We need so to view the world as to combine an idea of wonder and an idea of welcome. We need to be happy in this wonderland without once being merely comfortable.”
Naším cílem je neztratit se v překladu, ale proniknout pod povrch textu a zamyslet se nad významy skrytými v idiomatických spojeních a gramatických nuancích originálu. Budeme debatovat (anglicky) o obsahu textu, zjevném i skrytém, a sdílet interpretace, které vyplouvají na povrch.
Kurz je určen pokročilým i středně pokročilým mluvčím angličtiny a je veden tak, aby získali jistotu při četbě, poslechu i konverzaci na duchovní témata.
Organizační informace a cena
První setkání ve čtvrtek 8. října bude otevřené, později už skupina nové členy přijímat nebude.
Budete-li chtít chodit pravidelně, prosíme o registraci (viz formulář níže). Pro účast není stanovena pevná cena, výši můžete zvolit podle vlastního uvážení a možností. Doporučený příspěvek dohromady za všechna setkání je 700–2000 Kč.
